I headed out with the family this afternoon to visit “The Lady in Black” AKA Darlington Raceway to attend the first round of the 2023 NASCAR playoffs: the Cook Out Southern 500.
This was my second trip out to the track. The first trip was for the May 8, 2023 running of the Goodyear 400, where I put together a photo package for the Times-Mail, a sister publication to the Reporter-Times where I was a sports correspondent for several years back in Indiana. The Times-Mail is the hometown newspaper for NASCAR driver Chase Briscoe.
We picked up some tickets to seats just coming out of turn four and looking down the front stretch. It was a different perspective on the race from last spring and “working” a race.
I took advantage of the event to bring a Nikon with me and catch some photos of the race and the environment.
I know I “shoot heavy” and end up with a lot of photos to process, particularly when it comes to sporting events. I started taking photos with the flyover and—1,272 photos later—stopped with the 367th final lap.
It’ll take me a day or two to edit the images and get some of them posted here. Keep your eyes open!
