Conflicted

This week marks a turning point as another calendar year dwindles away.

Thanksgiving week brings a few things into my world. Two days away from the day job. Time to look back and give thanks for the bright spots in my life. The end of the regular college football season.

Friday night: Indiana travels to Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette to take on (and probably defeat) in-state rival Purdue.

Saturday afternoon: Alabama treks east to battle its in-state rival, Auburn.

Around this time, back in the Midwest, we would think about snow and a white Christmas. But things are different here. I smile as my neighbors don their puffer jackets and beanies when the temperatures are in the 40s and 50s. Meanwhile, I am out and about in my jeans and a t-shirt. If it is chilly, I’ll grab a Carhartt hoodie, too.

In another month, the NFL regular season will draw to a close. And in two months, the Super Bowl will not only bring a new wave of television commercials to life, but will also begin the drought of football.

But, like the rest of life, things are cyclical.

Football season turns into basketball season. Basketball season turns into baseball (and cycling) season. Baseball season turns into football season.

Life goes on and on and on.

At this point, I hope the College Football Playoffs don’t pit Indiana against Alabama in a bowl game.
