The Running Man (Chicago Edition)

Yesterday marked the end of Week 6 in the NFL season.

I grew up a fan of Da Bears. (Yes, I remember hearing “The Super Bowl Shuffle” on the radio.)

So far, the Bears have a 2-2 record, taking into account the Week 5 bye week.

Week 1 started the season off with a heartbreaking three-point loss to Minnesota. Not too agonizing.

Week 2 against Detroit…that was a different story. The Bears lost by a painful 31 points.

That loss was excruciating for one Bears fan, Chase Bandolik. Bandolik, a gym owner and an ultra runner, publicly committed to running one mile for every point the Bears lose this season.

Those 31 points resulted in a 31-mile run for Bandolik after the game.

The fulfillment of that commitment caught the attention of one Chicago TV station, which featured his dedication in “Bears fan vowed to run a mile for every point the team loses by. Then Sunday happened.” Even the Detroit Lions noticed and commented on Bandolik’s “gift” from the Lions.

Thankfully, weeks three and four gave Bandolik a breather as the Bears beat Dallas by 17 and Las Vegas by one.

Looking ahead to Monday night, the Bears make the trip to our nation’s capital to face off against the Commanders.

I’ll be joining the Bears faithful in cheering on the team during that primetime contest. And, for the sake of Bandolik’s legs, I’ll be praying for another win.

Bear Down!
