The 21st Century in Sports…so far

It’s no secret I am a big sports fan.

Alabama football. Indiana football and basketball. IndyCar. Cycling. The Olympics.

It’s safe to say that I will watch most sports on television, except golf. My uncle always watched that sport when he had a Sunday off from work at the steel mill. But it is a game I was ever attracted to. Even working at the Reporter-Times, I dreaded a golf assignment.

Today’s cover photo is one of my favorites from the archives. It was taken in the Winner’s Circle at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway after Simon Pagenaud won the 2019 IndyCar Grand Prix.

As I was browsing the Internet, I came across an interesting article at The Ringer: The Ringer Presents The 100 Best Sports Moments of the Quarter Century.

Looking back through the list of events, I was amazed at how many notable events have occurred since the world rang in the new century.

Many major sports are noted at one point or another. (Hello? Where is the representation of cycling?) But at least the Alabama Crimson Tide made the list, thanks to Coach Saban.

It is a nice trip down memory lane for any sports fan.
