As you may have noticed, there are many photography compilations marking the passing of time (in this case, 2024).
Today, I am highlighting the work of the Associated Press, an organization I am very familiar with. The AP reports on news worldwide using a network of staffers and member media outlets and then disseminates those reports globally.
During my college newspaper years, I had a handful of images distributed to newspapers throughout the AP membership. (I never learned where my images were used, unfortunately.)
As one of the most prominent news outlets in the world, it is no surprise the AP assembled a collection of 100 photos of 2024, looking back at the work of their photojournalism team.
I was drawn to the contrast of this post’s cover image. The peaceful people of ultra-Orthodox Jews living life based on principles hundreds of years ago looking at a damaged weapon of mass destruction. The juxtaposition of “purpose” between the missile hull and its five black-clad inspectors captures the religious and violent history of the region that continues even to this day.
