The 20th edition of the International Photography Awards celebrated the vast amount of creativity in the photographic medium.
When considering creative photography, one typically turns to “artistic ” images: portraits, fine art, and still life.
But even in sports and photojournalism, creativity comes into play through the photographer’s choice of vantage point, equipment used, point of focus, and many other decisions made…sometimes on the fly.
I selected a photograph by Benjamin Salb titled Pretty with Pink for the featured image. This macro photo was created by combining 63 images, each focused on a different part of the damselfly into one fully-focused image. (Full details about the image can be found here.)
Focus-stacking is a technique not used in photojournalism, but it is one that I would like to explore in the new year.
