A quick walkabout

Our exchange student and I visited the Sumter County Museum this afternoon to check out their Pirate Day festivities.

The event seemed geared toward kids and not so much a high school student and her host parent. But we made the best of a beautiful day, walked around, looked at some exhibits, and decided to return relatively quickly.

On the way out, we heard they were putting one of the actors in the stockade for bad-mouthing his pirate captain. Instead of throwing rotten fruit and vegetables at him (the norm in the pirate days, I learned), they let the little kids chuck water balloons.

I decided to stop and snap some photos of the water balloon “punishment,” with the above photo being my favorite from the series.
