Today, the final piece of the new mirrorless camera kit arrived, thanks to the fine folks at UPS.
The Nikon FTZ II allows me to use my legacy camera lenses with the new lens mount of the Nikon Z series cameras.
It’s funny to be going thru this process again.
When I was a student at the Indiana University School of Journalism (which was merged with the Media School in 2014), I ran into an issue with my Canon AE-1 Program camera. The issue required me to upgrade my tech for the first time in my photographic journey.
At that time, autofocus cameras were starting to take over the SLR market. (Yes, I’m that old.) Canon changed the lens mount which meant that had I upgraded from my manual focus camera to the autofocus one, I would have to upgrade all of my lenses, as well.
Most of the photographers I studied with were Nikon shooters. I looked around and found that Nikon was not changing the mount on their new autofocus cameras so old manual focus lenses could be used on the newest camera bodies.
Since I was going to have to upgrade, I migrated to Nikon.
Now, decades later, Nikon changed their lens mount on the mirrorless cameras, requiring the Nikon FTZ II to keep my lens investment functioning.
History does have a way of repeating itself, doesn’t it?
