Upgrade #2: Diving into Mirrorless

Oops, I did it again. Yes, a second upgrade.

I took advantage of an Amazon Prime deal to pick up a new mirrorless camera to add to the toolbox. The deal saved me a few hundred dollars over the current asking price.

The technology side of the upgrade advances my camera optics by about seven years. Newer image processor. Faster data transfer times. Assorted feature upgrades.

Along with a new camera to play around with comes a learning curve. It’s no different than any new technology—a computer, a smart TV, a car or a smartphone—there are new bells and whistles that have been added and I need to determine which ones will be useful to me and my photography and which ones aren’t going to be used very much.

One of the functions that is piquing my curiosity is the camera’s video capabilities. Right now, my video explorations take place in the confines of my iPhone. I’m interested to see what a mirrorless camera with some of my longer lenses can accomplish.

The hard part is waiting for the delivery trucks. The memory cards will arrive in one shipment before anything else. The camera and spare batteries will arrive a day or two later. But the adapter which allows me to connect my existing lenses to the new camera…well, it is expected to follow about a week later.

So at least I will be able to begin the process of learning how to operate the new camera next week before the adapter arrives and I can take it out for some photo shoots.

And, before those who know me ask, I remain…
